Josephine Baker
This is one of the few times I ever attempted a portrait of
an actual person. I used the famous photo of her from (I
believe) 1928 in Paris at the start of her remarkable
career.
Her body is made from hand-dyed cotton broadcloth, stuffed
with polyester fiberfill. Her face is sculpted first from a
polymer clay and then covered with matching fabric.
