Mary: The Conception of Christ This is a portrait of the Virgin Mary as she receives God's Holy Spirit and conceives Christ. Like many Latin church figures, I made Mary as a half-figure, using a trestle to represent her lower half. These church figures are painted blue under their clothes to symbolize purity and faith. They are cared for by special members of the congregation who dress them for special occasions and undress them for storage, and also clean their clothes. I think it is a neat tradition, and I am happy to do an updated version of it.
